Target Shooting

In cadets one of the activities you can participate in is target shooting. This Olympic sport is popular all over the world and will help develop many different skills from marksmanship to concentration and patience.

The first rifle you would come across as a cadet is the .22 Cadet No.8 Rifle. It is a single shot weapon and each round must be loaded individually. During your time as a recruit you will undergo "Dry Training". This is part of your initial training and during which you will learn how to operate and fire the No.8 Rifle in a safe manner.

Once you are 14 years old and a First Class Cadet you will be allowed to fire the L98A1 Cadet GP Rifle. Again this weapon is a modification, but this time of a weapon currently in use by the British Army, the L85. The L98 fires the same ammunition as the L85 but is a single shot weapon. It still has the magazine but the weapon has to be cocked each time it is fired.

During your time as a cadet there are four different Marksman awards that you can 'aim' to achieve!

 Squadron Marksman

 Wing Marksman

 Regional Marksman

 Corps Marksman
